SHOULD Eastbourne residents be paying for ‘a shared recovery plan’ with Lewes?

That is the golden question for taxpayers.

The plan is for Eastbourne Borough Council to invest £250,000 into the plan.

Lewes District Council is expected to do the same.

The programme is intended to address the impact of Covid of both areas.

Eastbourne’s Tory Leader Robert Smart is not impressed.

He said he is not convinced by the joint plan and he has reservations.

He puts it quite simply: “We are interested in Eastbourne, not necessairily in Lewes.

“If we look at tourism and enterprise, nobody wants to look at tourism and enterprise in Lewes.”

He wants to know what the £250k will be spent on.
