SIMON Leslie is a man on a mission – to get Eastbourne Borough FC into the Football League.

And I wouldn’t bet against it.

Yes, he has the money – an initial investment of £1.5 million – with the promise of much more to come.

He also has the passion: “I am a football fan who has seen a new opportunity.

“I want to secure Football League status for Borough, and as quickly as we can.”

Simon is a successful businessman, having made his money in media and travel.

But now, it’s something completely different – football.

He said: “I looked at a number of different clubs to invest in but I love being by the sea.

“This is a lovely part of the world and I feel it’s been under-served. Until now, that is.”

His immediate priorities are to improve the infrastructure and to build a strong team easy for people to watch.

He has a vision for a sporting village at Priory Lane to include other sports as well.

“The team is the fittest people will have seen for a very long time at Priory Lane – young, energetic and exciting to watch.

“We don’t have the biggest budget in our league but we have young and quality talent combined with strong depth of leadership.”

There’s a new club shop, a new coffee shop open weekdays, and Simon wants the community to come together.

“We will be putting on events for the community. We have a lot of land here, grass facilities, and I would like to see music festivals and picnic in the park events, something like that.

“I want to do more and let’s be clear – the more we can invest the quicker we can improve the facilities.”

Simon is urging spectators to book their tickets in advance – he wants to avoid large queues on matchdays.

“I want the experience to be like a theatre of games. I want the experience of coming to a Borough home game to be fun.

“Who knows – we may see a brass band playing at half time?

“I’m here for a good time and a long time.

“Development of our stadium is very significant as well as investment in players and coaches.

“We are creating individual brands for each player and I am so excited at the prospect.

“I’m active, buzzing and I’ve got both the time and energy.

“We are going on a great journey – and I want the people of Eastbourne to come on that journey.”
