THERE has been a wide debate this week online about the plan for 137 new apartments at Sovereign Harbour.

Untold Living (also known as Martinique Way Village Limited) is seeking permission to build 137 “apartments for older people” to the east of Martinique Way in Sovereign Harbour.

This application will now be heard at the Town Hall Monday 18th March 6 p.m. Members of the public can attend.

Many Harbour residents are against the idea.

Not so Eastbourne resident Eleanor Dudley: “This will bring people with money to Eastbourne, it obviously is going to be luxury living for elderly retired people.

Building was always going to take place there at some time.

Not in my back garden comes to mind.”

And resident Sean McCormack said: “Building retirement homes frees up housing and brings in monies for the local economy.”
