Sovereign Harbour residents have been reacting on social media this afternoon to today’s migrants drama.

Their first concern has been for the welfare of the migrants.

One said: “What a distressing time they will of had, especially having to be put in the cold sea in a dingy. Whatever their reasons I’m glad they are safe. Well done RNLI. How lucky we are to have such a super service.”

One post suggests there were 35 adults and four children.

Some were more harsh.

One said: “They will give them a warm welcome, then give them a gift card, and then the address for their hotel room which the taxpayer has kindly paid for.”

Another said: “Turn them straight around back to France. How can we be in lockdown if we encourage this?”

Another posted: “Hope they are going to be tested for Covid-19 on entry.”
