THE Towner Cinema returns on July 17 and, to celebrate being back, theyre’re showing something a bit special.
There will be a rare opportunity to see on screen a fresh 4k restoration of Ousmane Sèmbene’s ‘Mandabi’, the first-ever feature made in an African language – a razor-sharp satire on post-independence African nations and the shadow cast by colonialism, and described by the BFI as a “masterwork ripe for rediscovery”.
