THE Mayor has given an update on the ongoing situation in Elms Avenue, by the Afton Hotel.

Councillor Steve Wallis said the alleyway behind the Afton Hotel has been swept and the gate is closed.

The service road between Seaside Road and Elms Avenue has had some of the fly-tipping removed and there is still more to be shifted.

Easr Sussex County Council highways team will be in the area next week replacing or cleaning all the road signs.

He said: “The sad news is that the tree that was planted a few years ago has been hit by a truck and cannot be saved, it will be removed and replaced with a new tree during the autumn.

“We had hoped to hold a residents meeting in the Town Hall next month, however the town hall will not be opening for meetings until the new year.”
