THE WayfinderWoman Pier2Peer 2022 annual fundraiser was a massive success.

The weather turned from rain to sun at exactly the right moment and everyone took off bright and early on Saturday, October 1 to make their way along the beach.

In October, the tide is at its lowest at around 9.30 am. This was the time that people who are going to do the stretch between Pevensey Bay and Bexhill (where there is no promenade) should hit the low tide and be able to walk on that lovely stretch of sand exposed at that time. Otherwise they would be knee-deep in water.

Early morning check-in took place at Cadence Clubhouse Eastbourne (in front of the Congress Theatre) as they were the Pier2Peer Title and Medal sponsors this year.

Tim Fox from HailshamFM was broadcasting live, where MP Caroline Ansell officially opened the event. Freedom Leisure were kind enough to be Pier2Peer Water sponsors this year as well.

“We are especially appreciative of the Lightning Fibre folks who formed the first Pier2Peer corporate walking team to help raise much needed funds so that we can keep our drop-in advice centre in Eastbourne open. They were there leading the walkers off to Eastbourne pier and made it the entire 16 miles to Hastings pier across the finish line.”

Amongst the walkers, runners and cyclists were baby Cody and his mum Kate Bennett. Kate put Cody on her back and walked with him the first 5 mile segment of the route to Pevensey Bay. By then he was fast asleep. His dad Samuel Bennett picked him up there whilst mum Kate ran the route back to Eastbourne.

P2P is also about people being together and supporting and celebrating their wellbeing along our beautiful East Sussex coastline.
