Whilst the lockdown restrictions have slowly been easing over the last few months, residents at Chaseley have been eagerly awaiting guidance from the Government that would outline the plans for when they could leave their home.

With the exception of medical appointments, residents have not left the Chaseley grounds since March 2020.

After nearly 14 months of living life in just the Chaseley building and gardens, you can imagine the delight and excitement felt by the residents when it was announced that from early May they could leave their home and take a trip out with a loved one or carer.

Resident Mark was filmed on his first trip into Meads as he told anyone who would listen “I’m out, I’m out, it’s the best!”.

Sandra went on to tell us “It was a lovely day and very nice to see the sea. It was great to get out. I felt free” and Malcolm said “The weather was really good. The wind was blowing gently in my face. It was good to be out, it made me exceedingly happy seeing different people”.

Emma, CEO shares with us that “after the hardest year within our sector, my entire resident and staff team were overjoyed to support our Chaseley community re-accessing local areas after shielding for so long due to Covid-19.

To witness the joy on their faces and getting back to normality has been humbling and made me realise how much we take for granted. I am incredibly proud and in awe of how the residents have been able to pull together with us to keep motivated during this time and also my staff team for the incredible touches they do every day to keep our residents happy and healthy and safe.

We are truly honoured to hold such responsibility and want to thank all our families for their love, support and patience. We have so enjoyed welcoming families back to Chaseley and look forward to a summer of fun, love and laughter.”

Whilst these comments share an insight into everyone’s thoughts and emotions on that memorable day, the pictures really show the happiness and freedom felt by all residents. What a momentous day for everyone at Chaseley.
