If you love LIVE music this is the show for you!  That’s what it said on the poster and that’s what “Sunday Night Live!” delivered in spades!  What a talented town this is!  Visiting bands and acts my travel from afar, perform and move on again, but they will not better the talent on our doorstep.

I had the fortune of watching the launch show of a new Live Band Seasonal Show “Sunday Night Live!”, at The Royal Hippodrome Theatre last week.  The show rang to the wonderful sound of Eastbourne’s own wonderfully professional Duality.  Paula and Barney are a husband-and-wife duo who have been singing together and entertaining local and international audiences for over two decades.

The first night audience applauded, cheered, swayed and sang along, and Duality certainly left them wanting more.  The repertoire is rich with recognisable, much loved standards, with the Duality hallmark of impeccable blend and harmony.  Nothing jarring, nothing too edgy, not too many jazz chords.  But the range of artists represented is phenominal.  From Streisand to Ray Charles via The Monkees and Lionel Richie…Paula’s pure, pin-point voice delivers Carole King and The Carpenters one moment, and then fetches up terrific power for a fabulous medley of classics from The Supremes alongside the talented backing vocalists Mia Longman and Abbie Russell.  Barney’s lyrical baritone conjures a breezy Neil Diamond as easily as an utterly authentic Billy Joel.  A five-piece band (better known as The Rhythm Crew) includes top arranger Carl Greenwood heading the band on keyboards, explosive drummer Ed Chisholm and Rob Cousins also on keyboards – adding all the strings and extra touches to the fully orchestrated sound.  The smooth sounds of Steve Edwards on bass, and Andy Williams on lead and rhythm guitar – bringing some classic rock riffs as well as some rather beautiful acoustic latin-feel to some of the medleys.

With over 30 hits songs recreating the iconic sounds of the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s Duality brings a truly electric night of music to the Royal Hippodrome Theatre.  There are only 4 more performances to catch of “Sunday Night Live!” including a special matinee performance this month on 15th August at 3pm and 29th August at 8.15pm.  Love live music?  You’ll love “Sunday Night Live!”
