EAST Sussex County Council has been awarded £1.82m funding for travel projects.
This is from Phase Two of the Department for Transport’s Emergency Active Travel Fund.
Eastbourne Access Group wants to see the money spent wisely.
It says: “Let’s hope we see the sum allocated to public realm designs in Eastbourne benefit pedestrians and vulnerable people.
“With the town centre being remodelled and the seafront promenade always at risk from cycling campaigners let’s ensure designs protect the highest category of risk / danger …. pedestrians and disabled people.
“With a cycling and WALKING infrastructure plan in place we hope to see pavements repaired and an increase in safe walking spaces with a fair allocation of funds given to walking rather than it all being invested in cycling.
“If these criteria are met this money is welcome.
“Disability is not the problem, Accessibility is the problem.”
