Birling Gap Coastguard are warning the public to stay safe and not block busy roads over Easter.

They say: “With lockdown restrictions being slightly eased , we are expecting a very busy weekend in the local area.

We are asking in advance that, if visiting the area that the public kindly not block roads, access points or any gates that we may need to access in an emergency.

We would like to avoid a repeat of last summer when we found many access points and access roads blocked having a major impact on our response times in an emergency.

Remember, it could be your loved ones in need of our assistance.

We will be out patrolling the coastline over the bank holiday weekend liaising with our colleagues in partner agencies. Please also follow current government guidelines including social distancing and staying local. If approaching our officers, please respect the social distancing guidance and please don’t be offended if we take a step back when speaking to you.

If visiting the coast, please take necessary precautions when out enjoying yourselves such as checking tide times and weather conditions.

Please stay well away from cliff edges and bases as we have had a significant amount crumble this year. If taking to the water always let someone know where you are going and when you are due back.

Safety advice from the team can be found at the top of our page on the pinned post.If members of public have any litter, please either take it with you or use local bins and keep our fantastic coastline clean and tidy.In a coastal emergency dial 999 and ask for the coastguard!

Kind regards Birling Gap coastguard rescue team.”
